Well, somehow, you can. In the mountains, not easily reachable and thus with little tourism, is one of his rather unknown „castles“. Well, it’s not Neuschwanstein, rather a lodge. Still, this mountain area is probably one of the best places he could have chosen – again.

First, you walk through a very narrow gorge (0:10), which in itself is an experience. Right at the end of it, there’s a trail formerly used to transport cows up to the Alpine meadows. Unbelievable nowadays, how any animal could have walked that path (1:45). King Ludwig hasn’t, of course. He was carried by his servants. We don’t. Pweh!

After endless stairs, you’ll reach the meadows area (4:00). The green is amazing towards the grey walls of stone. The castle/lodge is amazing, too (5:00) and luckily there’s also a place to eat. And sleep. Before the night falls, we stay at one of the best viewpoints of the „Wetterstein“ mountain area, a pavilion once built for the King (5:30).

The next day, it drives us a little higher (7:00) towards another alpine lodge that is constructed boldly in a wind gap and right at the Austrian-German border (8:30). At the side is a mountain top called „Törlspitze“, which, I believe, was the first top over 2000m we did as a „BastiTour“ (9:00). The way back leads through a alpine garden (I think the highest in Germany) and down a very steep and spectacular trail (10:40), called „Devil’s buttocks“.

This will not yet conclude the week of tremendous trails as I have one more extra video to include for some last words.

Ever wanted to sleep at King Ludwig II of Bavaria’s place?
